A quaint hidden gem found at East Coast Road.
I paid this little cafe a visit after my sister raved about it when she went there. Apparently, there was a Taylor Lautner lookalike! Of course, I was keen to see the resemblance with my own eyes. But I also wanted to see if Penny University lived up to the hype, coffee-and-dessert wise. And it did.
It was pouring buckets of rain when me and Nadirah made our way there. After walking around in the rain, it was just nice to find shelter in a warm and cosy place. We both loved the decor and peaceful ambience to bits. (:
The array of pretty desserts did not disappoint. Mostly because I wasn't expecting to see that many pies. I did recognise that they were from Windowsill Pies though and I had always wanted to try their pies. Me and Nadirah laid our eyes on the in-your-face Smores pie and ordered a slice each. We both also ordered Hot Chocolate. Perfect for the cold weather.
Taylor Lautner wasn't in, unfortunately. When Nadirah was expressing her disappointment at that (loudly) at the counter, one of the baristas actually told her that "Taylor Lautner not working today lah, he working tomorrow". We both burst out laughing because we didn't expect him to know what we were talking about! I guess it's a known fact that Taylor Lautner's doppelganger works at Penny University. The resemblance must be strong.
Don't you love the simple decor? Plain furniture decorated subtly with colours everywhere.
The amazing Smores pie! Chocolatey marshmellowy goodness. I wish the base of the pie was made of digestive biscuits though. Instead of what tasted like filo pastry. Still, the pie was awesome.
My favourite piece of decor from the cafe: A rustic shelf of colourful billiard balls!
I would definitely revisit this cafe in the future. Not only to see Taylor Lautner in action, but because I loved how the cafe seemed like a sanctuary. A peaceful, welcoming place to sit back and relax while sipping hot chocolate. Love it.
